October 14, 2018, The Hollywood Palladium, Los Angeles, CA
On October 14th the Hollywood Palladium welcomed the BeatBuds. a popular kid’s group that hosted the BeatBASH, a family-oriented carnival and concert. The event included celebrity red carpet, carnival games, arts, and food trucks. The event benefited Baby2Baby, an organization that provides low-income families with diapers, clothing, and other basic needs.
The red carpet attendees included Perez Hilton, singer Angelic, and other celebrities.
The Project Runway star Michael Costello is a well-recognized designer in both New York and Los Angeles. This season he brought his collection to Los Angeles Fashion Week powered by Art Hearts Fashion. The collection consisted of slit maxi dresses with bright prints, bold colors, and asymmetric cuts. Men’s outfits were also all in bright colors with prints.
The Art Hearts Fashion Week organized by designer and its CEO Erik Rosete was the biggest fashion event to watch out this season: famous and emerging designers, celebrity guests (including Joanna Krupa), VIP guests and bloggers, countless parties – everything to define Los Angeles Fashion Week as a major player in the international fashion arena.
May Contain Nuts! A Night of Comedy benefitting the weSPARK Cancer Support Center on Tuesday, October 9 was a SOLD OUT show. The funds raised through this event provided much needed and greatly appreciated services to many families and cancer patients thanks the tremendous support of the audience and event sponsors such at Shawn & Richard Sperber, Daphne & Spencer Velasquez, Entertainment Productions, CBS, Wells Fargo, and a host of other generous sponsors. The event featured honorees Larry King and Alonzo Bodden, who also served as the evening’s master of ceremonies, with amazing performances by Jay Leno, Wendy Liebman, and James P. Connolly. Also, in attendance were Nancy Allen, Ed Begley Jr. (Better Call Saul), and Beth Grant and jazz great Marcus Miller, to name a few.
The most poignant part of the evening’s celebration was the testimonial from Willow Wood, a weSPARK guest, in talking about her own fight with cancer and the significance of having weSPARK in her corner. She emerged victorious in her battle and continues to inspire victims of this horrible disease around the world with her message of hope and the importance of having support from your family, friends and groups like weSPARK.
Larry King seemed to have done his own brand of standup, which included actual, old fashioned jokes, and the iconic King won over the crowd resulting in a standing ovation. The tremendously talented Alonzo Bodden kept the show running smoothly with a lot of comic relief thrown in-and was his usual hysterical self. When the audience applauded him for having given his brother a kidney (which is a true story), he said “Don’t clap. He owed me money!”
Wendy Liebman also hit it out of the park-no wonder she wrote for so many years for the Tonight Show; she has her own brand of humor and very effective timing. She talks about touring in Canada and staying at the “One Season” due to her limited budget. And James Connolly also kept the audiences in stitches and ready for Jay. And it’s no wonder Jay Leno has been so loved by America for so long; no one can entertain and have people in tears (of laughter) like Jay. His stellar stand up ended the evening on a high note and everyone left realizing this was one of the greatest nights in comedy ever!
On September 29 guests and media gathered at The Holding Co. space for the Vicken Derderian’s Spring/Summer 2019 fashion show.
The great collaboration of two designers, Vicken and Kyung Hwa Kim, demonstrated creativity and influence of European and Asian clothing styles drastically changing the way we see modern street fashion. This is the third collaboration of the duo.
For the designer’s fourth collection, Vicken Derderian is exploring new territory, introducing traditional handwork finishes such as beading and crochet into the brands’ visual lexicon.
Kim, who brings her trademark softness to the collection, the perfect juxtaposition to Derderian’s clean, architecturally-inspired designs. The pair first met at the Academy of Art University, and reconnected during their shared time at BCBG Max Azria.
Vicken shared with HGM his next fashion show will take place in Armenia in November of this year.
The show was organized with the help of the LuxeLab in association with L’Oréal Professionnel as the exclusive Runway Hair Team, Chic Studios as the Official Makeup Partner, and nails by LA-based Ani Michele. Footwear is provided by Charles David. The production of the event is made possible with the incredible support of Neptune Productions.
About Vicken Derderian:
Vicken Derderian was born and raised in Pasadena, CA. He graduated with a Bachelors of Architecture from the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-ARC) and received his Masters of Arts in Fashion Design from the Academy of Art University.
Prior to pursuing his Masters in fashion design, Vicken received his Bachelor of Architecture from SCI-ARC. Architecture is his specialization, his broader interest in the world of design which has prompted him to look outside his specific field to other industries to explore new ideas to try and push his current design methodologies. His interest in fashion is parallel to architecture due to its constant dialogue with its surroundings. He views fashion as an intimate architecture of the human body.
Derderian began his eponymous label in 2014 after working as a designer for renowned LA label BCBG Max Azria.
OC Fashion Week celebrated with several amazing shows in the elegant sculpture of the Dawson Cole fine art gallery in Laguna Beach. On Saturday night a glamorous crowd turned out for the line up of fashion designers presenting at OC Fashion Week hosted by Bravo’s celeb Peggy Sulahian, the 100th housewife and star of the reality show RHOC. She wore a couture gown by one of the designers presenting that evening named Nicole Bakti. The white dress was stunning with artful cutouts and a perfect fit. The night kicked off with cocktails in the gallery giving everyone a chance to mingle before the show.
The first designer, Carolina Hernandez of Veteran Couture presented a Renaissance inspired collection and the crowd enjoyed seeing the elaborate pieces coming down the runway against the backdrop of the beautiful sculptress. There was something Parisian about the whole night as the sun set in Laguna beach. The designs were big and bold and perfect for fall because the color palette was mostly dark blues, purples and burgundies. The dresses had period details like capes and puffy sleeves. Our host praised the collection and impressive designs throughout the show.
The second show by Coral Castillo also included pieces with intricate details but this collection was in more of a gothic style. The color pallet was mostly black and red, and some dresses were more casual giving off a punk rock vibe. Others were more-high end with heavy beading and cut out designs. The collection featured several creative zipper designs as well.
The third collection called PhoenixArt was an Asian inspired line featuring beautiful kimonos and intricate embroidery designs. It was very colorful with bright blues and pink and purple color combinations. The crowd enjoyed seeing the unique styles and the line featured everything from loungewear to evening wear.
It was a great night full of amazing California talent and the best of Orange County style. There were so many beautiful designs presented on the runway and the night was made even sweeter by the fact that a portion of the proceeds were donated to the Soccer for Hope charity. Everyone came out to support a great cause and get the latest update on what’s in style.
On Sunday the events continued with a special show hosted by ZO skincare at the World Peace Lake. The beautiful backdrop made for a perfect day of shows with more great designers and celeb attendees.
