First Fashion Business Portal for Emerging Designers to Revolutionize Industry

Miami,  April 4, 2017

Beth Sobol, with more than 30 years of experience in the fashion industry, and Founder of Miami Fashion Week has launched the Council of International Fashion Designers (CIFD). The first of its kind for the fashion industry, the CIFD platform provides a direct link to experts, information, and resources to help emerging brands succeed in the United States.

The CIFD is a one-stop shop for designers seeking advice and guidance in positioning their businesses for growth in a complex domestic and international fashion market. Among the many benefits, CIFD members will have access to the industry’s top experts to help them navigate through the critical stages and challenges facing designers and to help them sustain in today’s digital and disruptive market.

“Today’s designers need to be smarter about and more aware of the changing consumer shopping habits than ever before. These monumental changes have precipitated a need for different methods of financing businesses. E-commerce plays a greater and greater role in brand building and it thereby requires a different approach to capital needs and allocations. Wholesale channels of distribution are also morphing daily. The more informed small business owners are, the better prepared they will be to find a path to growth and profitability in this new environment. I look forward to providing insights and financing opportunities through the CIFD to its membership,” said Gary A. Wassner, CEO, Principal, Hilldun Corporation, and shareholder in the CIFD.

The CIFD and its strategic partners have joined forces to create a safety net for the world’s emerging designers providing relevant, current, and correct best business practices and to create unique access, opportunity, and value for new business development with the shared vision of supporting CIFD members by helping them grow their businesses in the American market.

“Our members will have what is essentially a dream team of advisers and experts guiding them every step of the way,” says Beth Sobol. “Our goal is to arm them with innovative information and advice to prepare them for the many challenges facing them in today’s market.”

CIFD members will have access to experts and resources in many phases of retail strategies, fashion law, factoring and finance, branding, social media strategies, e-Commerce, IoT and technology in fashion, trends forecasting, international trade assistance, and much more. “Beth has spent the last two years working diligently to assemble her team of advisers for this much-needed service said Aaron Perry,” Beth’s former business partner with Miami Fashion Week and a shareholder in the CIFD.

The CIFD, together with Bamboo Rose, provider of the product innovation platform that connects retail communities, have collaborated to create the Bamboo Rose “House of Fashion”, a virtual showroom providing CIFD members with access to global buyers and resources never before possible for an emerging brand.

“Designers and brands today are under more pressure to innovate and reach wider markets than ever before. The traditional approach to developing products and reaching buyers doesn’t cut it,” said Sue Welch, CEO of Bamboo Rose. “Designers, retailers and brands need new ways to reach international buyers and quickly receive feedback on their product for their particular markets. The Bamboo Rose House of Fashion provides a unique online community that connects CIFD designers with international retail buyers to ultimately give consumers a more appealing, high quality product.”

Danielle Garno, a shareholder in the Miami Litigation Practice of Greenberg Traurig, serves as a CIFD fashion law partner. “Helping to launch this greatly needed resource for emerging designers who want to take their businesses to the next level and beyond was highly rewarding,” said Garno, whose practice focuses on specific issues faced by the fashion community. “I look forward to working with the CIFD on many more initiatives to support this young business community that is so essential to the future of the fashion industry as a whole.”

Now tonight, his son-in-law, Jake Marley, has been named Writer of the Year!  Michael Michera made a long journey here to the United States from Pabianice, Poland tonight, and now with his victory, he has come one step closer to his career goal of becoming a concept designer for the film industry in Hollywood!”

On the Runway: Belarusian-American Designer Tatiana Shabelnik Showcases Global Inspirations at 2017 LA Fashion Week – LA Fashion Showcase – a wonderful event for a greater cause

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

March 31, 2017

On the Runway: Belarusian-American Designer Tatiana Shabelnik Showcases Global Inspirations at 2017 LA Fashion Week – LA Fashion Showcase – a wonderful event for a greater cause

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. –– Los Angeles Fashion Showcase, and the American Heart Association, would like to present the Rock the Red Project ®. A collaborative initiative presented by Los Angeles Fashion Showcase, raising awareness on the impact of Heart & Stroke Disease in Men, Women and Children. Los Angeles Fashion Showcase empowers, educate, and motivate boldly actions by driving conversation on digital and mass media outlet’s both online and offline.

Los Angeles Fashion Showcase® forms an international production agency with global initiatives with emphases on production, marketing and event management. This is truly an event that incorporates celebrities and designers.

Joining this season’s landmark event is Belarusian-American designer Tatiana Shabelnik, who brings her globally, inspired collection “Contrast” to the runway on Saturday, April 1 at 2 p.m. The show will take place in Beverly Hills.

“Contrast” presents a dramatic fusion of bold colors and contrasting textures in leather, silk, and chiffon, inspired in part by the colorful works of Russian artist Vassily Kandinsky and Belarusian/French artist Marc Chagall. Her signature use of orange reflects enthusiasm, warmth, and happiness while also capturing energy and cheerfulness.

As a Soviet emigrant, Shabelnik says that her selection of colors celebrates the spirit of risk-taking, physical confidence, and vivacious competition and independence that she has experienced during her own journey from East to West.

This season she has chooses RED as a new ORANGE, ORANGE as a new Black. The color palette of her luxury fashion line is primarily red-and-black, gradually transforming into orange.

As Tatiana’s friend, Jeri Ferris wrote in her blog, “Red. A significant word. In Russian, it is “krasny,” which means both the color red and the concept of beauty. So Red Square, Krasnaya Ploshchad, means both red and beautiful, and it truly is both.”

By offering a contrast between contemporary Los Angeles glamour and the vivid ancestral past of rural Belarus, Shabelnik’s work is rooted in the Belorussian folk dresses of her youth with a modern twist. She provides a cosmopolitan and playful blend of colors and textures inspired by her fearless personality.

sh2

As noted by the Los Angeles Times, her pieces are a fun “interplay of bold color and contrasting textures” that she considers “wearable art.”

“I want people to wear my designs in everyday life, not simply for the sake of a runway,” she says.

Shabelnik’s work has been featured in various publications, including the Los Angeles Times, Whittier Daily News, Fashion MOST Magazine, Whittier Daily News, Elements magazine, Magazine MADAME (Dubai), Elegant Magazine, OBSCURAE, En Vie (Japan)Dreamingless (UK), and podcasts and radio interviews. Shabelnik also participated in Elephantasia, collaboration among 13 designers at last year’s Vancouver Fashion Week to raise public awareness about the rising elephant crisis in Africa. Shabelnik and Elephantasia’s other designers were featured in the New York Times and UK VOGUE.

In addition to clothing, Shabelnik also creates jewelry to complement and accentuate her line.  With a range of colors and designs, Shabelnik’s jewelry is meant to inspire—much in the same way that Chagall and Kandinsky have inspired her.  Her jewelry, like her clothing designs, is meant to be more than simple merchandise: it is art to be worn and celebrated in daily life.

It is also not a coincidence that when Tatiana does runways, she merges dance, choreography, music and fashion. In this showcase you will be pleasantly surprised by an astonishing performance of pro ballroom dancers, Maksim Leonov and Melaina Larson, as well by very known Whittier based company- Paso de Oro Dance Company. Tatiana  danced on Paso de Oro bachata performance team for a year and is very passionate about Latin Dancing.  Era Kayln, opera singer from Moscow, will be part of the show as well.

To Tatiana, fashion is like dance; it is all about movement … it is “movement in color.”

LAFW Gala: Behind the BADBUTERFLY Collab with Project Runway Star Candice Cuoco and T V Host Vanessa Simmons

0

On Thursday night Project Runway Season 14 contestant Candice Cuoco and Centric TV host Vanessa Simmons hit the red carpet for the opening Gala of LAFW. The pair showed off their style at the exclusive party held on top of the W Hotel in Hollywood.

The Gala kicked off the Los Angeles Fashion Week Spring 2017 season with live performances and runway previews as well as an Andy Warhol inspired art installation. Everyone turned out in their most stylish looks for the event showing off daring accessories and sparkling outfits.

I had the chance to interview Cuoco and Simmons on the red carpet about their highly-anticipated collaboration BADBUTTERFLY scheduled to hit the runway this Sunday at the finale of LAFW in Hollywood. According to the pair known as #girlbosses in fashion circles the collection all started with a pencil skirt. Both women, who were dressed in sharp and stylish businesswear, are entrepreneurs who have supported women’s empowerment throughout their careers.

“I’ve hosted LAFW for the past few seasons and now, this season I’m presenting a collection with Project Runway finalist Candice Cuoco.” Vanessa, who also hosts the business competition show #queenboss on CentricTV told me.

Red carpet. Photo by Sierra Clair

“Vanessa introduced me to LAFW because I’m new to LA so my girl has been showing me all around.” Added Candice excitedly.

“I asked her to design me a pencil skirt and I just loved the way she made it.” Explained Vanessa.

“And that was the beginning of the BADBUTTERFLY collection.” They both said in unison.

“It’s a lifestyle collection for the woman who is looking to conquer anywhere in her life.” Vanessa told me.

“We were really inspired by women’s stories.” Said Candice who’s Instagram bio reads “#WomenRunThisHouse”

And their vision for BADBUTTERFLY doesn’t just apply to the clothes either, the model casting call for Sunday’s runway show read “Where my girls at? Tattoos, tall, short, curvy, BRING ‘EM OUT!!” These two are on a mission to make their show stylish and feminist. They are definitely catching the eye of the LA fashion industry with their collaboration.

Malan Breton’s Presentation Opens Style Fashion Week

0

March 9, Pacific Design Center

Los Angeles is now celebrating another season of fashion which started with the opening of Style Fashion Week that took place March 9th – 12th at the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood.

On March 9th all guests and press had an opportunity to enjoy Taiwanese-born American fashion designer Malan Breton’s spectacular FW17 runway show that opened Style Fashion Week. Malan’s collection was inspired by the glamour of the 1930s. Malan’s presentation “The 7 Deadly Sins” was all about glitter and elegance of “Hollywood’s uncensored pre-code film noir era”.

The next day was marked by fashion shows of great designers like Mario De LA Torre and David Tupaz.

“My company is Bijan Andre Atelier and I was inspired by floral, lace and sequins”, – said Bijan about his new collection.
We also talked to painter Elise Rise who graduated from Princeton Art School. She’s been working a lot all this time. “I’ve always been a painter since I was a child. It’s a drive”, – she admitted. She presented her art installation at Style Fashion Week this past week. “It started out as my senior thesis in art school”, – she said. “It’s really about how to make images and how to be a contemporary artist, and those two questions I was definitely asking myself”.

“We love Style Fashion Week. We come every year. Pol Atteu opened Style Fashion Week and the charity shows a couple years in a row, so we come back and support it”, – said Patrik Simpson about celebrity designer Pol Atteu. Pol did several shows including Doubt and To Tell The Truth. Also, he and Patrik “opened up the store to a bunch of new brands that are able to come in and showcase their merchandise at our Beverly Hills Rodeo Drive boutique”, – said Pol.
