Samsung Electronics announced that it will support five startups created by Samsung employees which are being spun off from the company’s Creative Lab (C-Lab) program.

Created in December 2012, C-Lab is a startup business program that nurtures a creative organizational culture and innovative ideas among Samsung employees. Since its inception, 25 C-Lab projects have turned their ideas into businesses.

“There are already 25 C-Lab alumni startups which have hired about 100 employees after independence from Samsung Electronics,” said Jaiil Lee, Vice President and Head of the Creativity & Innovation Center at Samsung Electronics. “These figures demonstrate how C-Lab startups are growing at a brisk pace and nurturing a new startup ecosystem within Samsung.”

The five C-Lab projects that were selected this year are applying innovative thinking and cutting-edge technology to products for beauty, kids and other daily uses. The five products honored this year include:

  • Bebefit – Baby carriers that protect infants in an easy and smart way
  • Chikapong – Kids’ Toothbrushes that help kids develop healthy dental habits
  • TagPlus – Internet-connected devices for kids that connect to toys
  • S-Skin – Home skin care solutions that help analyze and care for skin at the same time

The five teams introduced their products at ABC Kids Expo 2016 as well as CES 2017 drawing the attention of industry insiders. As the five teams become independent from Samsung Electronics, they are incorporating feedback from consumers and industry experts to improve their products.

C-Lab alumni startups have experienced tremendous success and growth in recent years. SketchOn Inc. was globally recognized as a startup with enormous potential after it was ranked fourth – the highest a Korean startup has ever achieved – at Slush 2016, the largest startup conference in Europe. In addition, Salted Venture Inc., Innomdle Lab and WELT Inc. far exceeded their targeted funding goals on the global crowdfunding platform, Kickstarter and plan to introduce their products to the market very soon.

Cinema Italian Style Film Festival

“- Andrey, what is art?

_ Before defining art – or any concept – we must answer a far broader question: what’s the meaning of man’s life on Earth?”

(From the documentary “A Poet in the Cinema: Andrey Tarkovsky” (Un Poeta nel Cinema: Andrej Tarkovskij, 1984, Donatella Baglivo)

This season Cinema Italian Style Film Festival celebrated Cinecitta’s 80-year anniversary with the black carpet at inaugural Cinecitta key award ceremony that took place on November 15. Beautiful actress Sarah Gadon (Alias Grace, Netflix) was honored by Luce Cinecitta with the inaugural Cinecitta Key.

Other attendees included director Andrea De Sica, Rafaella Lebboroni, the Manetti Brothers, director Claudio Santamaria and many others.

Italian movie directors the Manetti Brothers presented their film called Love and Bullets. The movie is a musical and a crime movie at the same time with the actors singing while they are shooting. The movie directors worked with a big crew. It was very difficult to cast because they had a lot of actors they tried as singers and a lot of singers they tried as actors. The movie was shown at the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica.

Movie director Andrea De Sica presented his thriller Children Of The Night about an Italian school in the Alps where “children are separated from the rest of civilization”. It was Andrea’s first time at the festival. He already showed his movie in Europe and Asia.

Actor and director Claudio Santamaria presented his short movie called The Millionairs based on a graphic novel. It was difficult but stimulating for him to direct the film.

The festival’s honoree Sarah Gadon was excited to receive the keys. She talked about the important role of independent filmmaking in her career.

The festival’s last day was marked with the screening of Holding Hands (director Gianni Amelio).

The Cinema Italian Style took place on November 16-21. The films were shown at the EGYPTIAN and AERO theatres.

Adolfo Sanchez Presents The Mordida Collection At LAFW

On October 11 young and talented celebrity designer Adolfo Sanchez surprised Los Angeles Fashion Week LAFW audience with his new collection SS20 called Mordida. The collection was inspired by Goth designs and vampire theme, something that would remind one about Halloween time. Models were wearing mostly black dresses that would perfectly match their dramatic smokey eye makeup.

A girl choosing any of these beautiful “vampire” dresses would catch everyone’s eye at an upscale Hollywood costume party. Chick and edgy, Adolfo’s gowns are very haute couture and elegant at the same time.

In overall, LAFW was a huge success. Designer Coral Castillo accepted the Mossy Award earlier that night.
