Beautycon NYC: Let’s Celebrate Beauty

The two-day beauty and makeup celebrity event took place in New York City this past weekend.Numerous famous guests likeMarsai Martin, Manny MUA, Gigi Gorgeous, Becky G, Priscilla Ono, Angel Merino, Amanda Steele, Raye Boyce, Aliya Janell, and  LaLa Romero showed at the Day 1 Beautycon red carpet.

Issa Rae and Regina Hall spoke about the stereotypes black women face on the Black Girl Magic on the Big Screen presented by Universal’s “Little” panel, “ There’s a stereotype that black women are angry but I think it’s important that we don’t mute what we know; Black women feel a pressure to not be perceived as a certain stereotype and mute that assertiveness,” – said Regina Hall.

Also, Fenty Beauty Global Makeup Artist Priscilla Ono debuted her ready-to-wear capsule collection with plus-size fashion brand Eloquii: “It’s essential to be able to wear what you want, feel good, and look good in it“.

The next day Beautycon announced the Beautycon Japan Festival launching in June 2019, welcomed headliner Cardi B as well as dozens of additional celebrities, content creators, brands and a sold-out crowd of attendees to Manhattan’s Jacob K. Javits Center for day two of Beautycon Festival NYC. This year marks the five-year anniversary of Beautycon Festival NYC.

Cardi B took her shoes off during her fireside chat moderated by Beautycon CEO Moj Mahdara about female financial literacy, how to manage your money, equal pay for women and more. Notable quotes included: “Do you know how many people’s bills I pay? Like 10.” / “Always take a business class because what you go to college for might not be what you end up pursuing.” / “I get paid equally because as I came up I’ve seen male rappers and we would do shows together and I asked why is this man making more money than me?”

Cardi Band Moj brought a young audience member on-stage for Cardi’s panel who had emailed Moj asking for Cardi to be the headliner of this year’s Festival and Moj promised her tickets if she could make that happen.

Hennessy Carolina joined Cardi B on-stage where they agreed money does not always buy happiness, “No, it can make life a lot easier and a lot harder,” – said Cardi B.

Angie Nwandu, founder of The Shade Room, spoke on the Kool-Aid in a Wine Glass: The History and Evolution of Shade panel moderated by Charlamagne Tha God of The Breakfast Club.

Manny MUA moderated the Self-Made panel with Tokyo Stylez where they chatted about what it is like to start your own line, market on social and be your own boss.

The other celeb attendees included Tokyo Stylez, Erika La’ Pearl, LaLa Milan, Angie Nwandu, Blair Imani, Emily Current, Meritt Elliott, Zandra A. Cunningham, DJ Mikey Pop, Wuzzam Supa, Izzy With TRŸBE Dance Company, Noor Tagouri, Courtney Adeleye, Adam Eli, DeRay Mckesson, Tahirah Hairston, Charlamagne tha God and Melly Sanchez.
