Tonight, experience the Festival’s Opening Ceremony LIVE in your favorite cinema and watch the world premiere of the opening film.
Since 2010, the Festival de Cannes, Canal +, the Fédération Nationale des Cinémas Français and the CNC have been inviting the general public to participate in the greatest film event in the world, by allowing cinemas across France to screen all the excitement of its famous Opening Ceremony. This year, nearly 600 venues (150 more than in 2018) have applied to take part in the event.
Thanks to the initiative organized in partnership with Canal +, you can join us at 7pm to watch the first red carpet arrivals and mark the launch of 12 days of screenings and events that will celebrate all the diversity of international filmmaking on the big screen.
On the stage of the Grand Théâtre Lumière at the Palais des Festivals, our master of ceremonies, actor and director Edouard Baer will welcome the Competition Jury , chaired by Alejandro González Iñárritu. The 72nd Festival will be officially declared open by Charlotte Gainsbourg and Javier Bardem.
The ceremony was followed by a screening of Jim Jarmusch‘s The Dead Don’t Die, the opening film and first to compete for the Palme d’or. Watch the world premiere of the film – distributed by Focus Features and Universal Pictures International (France) – on 14 May, in the comfort of your favorite cinema.
